The story revolves around an eccentric samurai, Gintoki Sakata, his apprentice, Shinpachi Shimura, and a teenage alien girl named Kagura. The anime is based on Hideaki Sorachi's manga of the same name.

The episodes of the Japanese anime series Gintama were animated by Sunrise. (Unless you really, really don't care.Aniplex's first DVD released for Gintama. Just don't skip the entire season goddamnit. I myself skipped like 5 or 6 episodes of the first season, but you have to make sure the episode you want to skip isn't listed here.

It's not like it's some contest.ītw, I guess you can skip some comedy episodes you really don't enjoy. The best thing to do is what already some people told - just take your time and watch it slowly, from the start (or from the 3rd episode, 1st and 2nd are fillers), whenever you feel like. 200 episodes is a lot of time, 1st season alone is already longer than the rest of Gintama seasons combined together. I doubt you'll get any impact during emotional moments in later parts if characters mean nothing to you, if you don't know their relations and dynamics, if you haven't seen their daily lives etc. From my point of view as I'm a big Gintama fan you'll be doing yourself a huge disservice if you do that. It's not my favorite comedy show out there but it's fairly solid.Only people who didn't like Gintama are likely to tell you that you can skip seasons. A big one.Īs for Nichijou I have actually seen it! I even own all 10 volumes of the manga. I don't remember laughing so hard in my life, while watching this, and yes i'm a fan of it. I can see that you are quite the nichijou fan. If you wanna watch something funny, watch Nichijou instead. Watch the last episode of Silver Soul Arc - Second Half War and pass to another anime. It's the rabid fanbase of Gintama that annoyingly hypes it up to new levels as if it was the word of the next anime prophet. My suggestion is to just watch it casually, a couple of episodes at a time and it will slowly grow on you.

Gintama will certainly not blow you away from the get-go, but it has its moments where it lands the humor really well.

That will cause a predisposition against the particular anime and it will feel like a chore. It's not my favorite comedy show out there but it's fairly solid.Įh, I would say don't watch it if you want to do it out of obligation. I just want to get a solid opinion on it because I know it's a really popular show.Īs for Nichijou I have actually seen it! I even own all 10 volumes of the manga. Not saying that I think I would hate Gintama or anything but I certainly don't think it'll blow me away. Gintama is one amongst many shows for me that I want to watch not because I think it would be my favorite show or anything, but more out of obligation.
